Volunteers at a Protect Beautiful Queensland stall

We all know how truly special Queensland is - so let's protect it for the future!

Join us at Cotters Market as we share our love for North Queensland's beautiful places and garner support for their protection. We'll be having friendly chats with locals who love the outdoors and showing the Queensland Government that they really do have voter support to invest in nature!

Please sign up for a shift or two below, and help to keep our stall pumping all morning. And yes - all volunteers will be provided with their very own Protect Beautiful Queensland t-shirt! 😁

Visit the Protect Beautiful Queensland website to learn more about our collaborative campaign to double Queensland's protected areas.

Let's help look after our reef together!

Tangaroa Blue Foundation's Great Barrier Reef Clean Up is back - and we're excited to get in on the action!

Spend a Sunday morning in nature with community-minded locals, removing litter from the edges of Ross Creek in Lou Lister Park, at the stadium overflow parking (see map below).

All rubbish collected with be sorted, counted and weighed, contributing to vital citizen science data!

Please wear sun-safe clothing, long pants and closed-in shoes. Gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you like. Morning tea will be provided, and water to refill your bottle.

Children under 15 are welcome but must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

We'll meet under the shady tree opposite Officeworks (marked with a star on the map below) at 7.50am to kick off our safety briefing at 8am. We hope you can join us!

Liz Downes at TYTO Wetlands

You might remember that our May Paperbark carried the news that long-time NQCC member Liz Downes had been awarded the “Heart of Volunteering Award” by Volunteering North Queensland at their annual awards in Townsville. On Friday 27 November, Liz's wonderful contributions were propelled even further into the spotlight when she was announced as the winner of Volunteering Queensland's "Volunteer of the Year"!

This is the premier award for volunteers in Queensland, and Liz (also the Vice President of Wildlife Queensland Townsville Branch) was chosen from among 147 other nominations.
