North Queensland Conservation Council

We are the voice for the environment in North Queensland. We advocate on regional environmental issues, representing the area roughly bounded by Bowen, Cardwell, the Coral Sea and the Northern Territory border.

Our mission is to influence, educate and inspire our North Queensland community to achieve an ecologically sustainable society.

You can learn all about our work on this website, in our latest Annual Report, or by contacting us directly. If you would like to support what we do, you could join as a member, donate, volunteer, attend our events or follow us on Facebook or Twitter. We are a registered Australian charity and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

We hope you can join with us to strengthen the environment movement in beautiful North Queensland.

    Paperbark April 2020

How are you? Hopefully you are making the best of these strange times. We certainly have been (but more on that later).

Sadly, it hasn't been the best month for our environment, with reports that our Great Barrier Reef is suffering "near-annual" coral bleaching and our country's environmental health has received a result of less than one out of ten on a major environmental scorecard. With this on top of COVID-19 restrictions keeping us away from some of our favourite natural spaces and cancelling numerous environmental events, you could be forgiven for feeling a bit down lately.

If your optimism is in need of a boost, read on to learn all about what's new at NQCC (it's exciting) and how you can continue to contribute to the movement, even in lockdown. We also recommend giving yourself a few minutes to read about how "tackling climate change is vital for the strongest economic recovery after coronavirus", because the future is just around the corner.

Have Your Say this Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June each year, and plays a big role in NQCC's calendar. It is the day that our Annual Memberships are due for renewal and is also a day to reflect on what our environment means to us and what we are working towards.

This World Environment Day, we invite our members to join us in a virtual setting (via Zoom) for an interactive workshop. This isn't a seminar or webinar. There are no guest speakers or experts invited along to impart their knowledge. Instead, we want to hear from YOU, and learn from your local knowledge, your passion and your experience.

For this event, we ask you to consider the following three questions:

    • What do you love most about North Queensland's environment?
    • What are you biggest concerns for our environment?
    • What would you like to see in NQCC and North Queensland's future?

Please note that this event is for our members only - those who have pledged their commitment to our organisation. If you wish to have your voice heard, please ensure you join or renew your membership either before or directly after you RSVP.

You'll receive the Zoom link after you RSVP and your membership has been authenticated.

    June Green Drinks

Well, it's that time again! Once again this is an online event - but the countdown is on until we can mingle face-to-face! To celebrate World Oceans Day (Monday 8 June), this month's theme is "Ocean Life". Wear blue, or something marine-themed (or maybe feature your goldfish in the background?) and prepare any ocean-themed photos, jokes, stories and anecdotes you'd like to share.

Remember - this is a networking event for anyone who loves the environment, so feel free to invite a friend to join! Personal connection is so important to charge our motivation, and that is something you can't get enough of!
