Leave a Gift in Your Will

Climate rally crowd with children at the forefront

The future is in your hands

For more than 50 years, NQCC has stood up for the ecosystems, wildlife and communities that make our region so special. This work has only ever been possible because people like you have cared deeply enough to act - lending your voice, your time, and your support to protect North Queensland’s environment.

Some of our supporters choose to extend that care beyond their lifetime by leaving a gift to NQCC in their will. A bequest is a powerful way to ensure that your passion for nature and justice lives on, strengthening the voice for the environment that future generations will rely on.

Why leave a bequest to NQCC?

Leaving a gift in your will is a meaningful way to reflect your values and create a lasting legacy for North Queensland’s environment.

A bequest to NQCC helps to:

  • Protect ecosystems and wildlife for future generations
  • Strengthen an independent, community-led voice for nature
  • Respond to emerging environmental and climate threats
  • Support long-term, evidence-based advocacy when it matters most

A gift of any size helps provide stability and flexibility for our work - helping to ensure NQCC can continue standing up for threatened ecosystems, supporting community-led campaigns, and holding decision-makers to account when it matters most.

Writing your will

Your will is a deeply personal document that reflects what matters most in your life. Many people choose to include a charitable gift as a way of passing on their care for the natural world and their hope for a fairer, brighter future.

We encourage you to discuss your wishes with your family or loved ones, so they understand why supporting environmental protection is important to you.

Your will is an important legal document, and we recommend seeking advice from a qualified solicitor or the Queensland Public Trustee. If you already have a will, you can still include a gift to NQCC by adding a codicil or when you next update your will.

Suggested wording

To ensure your wishes can be fulfilled, it is important that NQCC’s full legal name is used.

North Queensland Conservation Council Incorporated

Your solicitor or trustee can include a clause similar to the following:

“I GIVE (insert details of the bequest) free from all debts payable in respect of my estate to the North Queensland Conservation Council Incorporated, and I DECLARE that the receipt of an authorised officer of the organisation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executor(s).”

Your solicitor or trustee can tailor this wording to suit your circumstances - this example is simply a guide.

Types of bequests

There are a number of ways to leave a gift in your will:

A specific gift: A nominated sum of money or specific asset.

A residual gift: The whole or a percentage of your estate after providing for family and loved ones.

A percentage gift: A fixed percentage of your estate, which does not need regular updating as circumstances change.

Your will may need to be updated over time as your circumstances change. Reviewing it regularly helps ensure your wishes are carried out as intended.
