How do we get this project right? How do we reach the outcomes we want? Who needs to be in the room and how do we get them there? These were some of the questions we discussed at our Co-Design Workshop on 12 February.
The online workshop was attended by local NQCC supporters and colleagues from across the state involved in similar projects. We appreciate the thoughtful contributions provided by all participants!
What did we learn?
The aims of this project can come across as pretty confusing. We need to clear about what our goals are and what is in and out of scope.
A lack of community consultation has been a significant failure of the renewable energy transition in many cases. We should endeavour to connect with residents in likely development areas as a matter of priority to ensure their voices are heard.
We should lead with a positive vision for the future, perhaps citing case studies where renewable energy projects have consulted well with local communities and protected or enhanced natural values.
