Federal Election 2025: Where do they stand on climate?

ACF's scorecard awards the ALP two ticks, the Greens four ticks and the LNP no ticks against saving nature, championing renewables, rejecting nuclear and ending coal and gas.

Want to know where the parties running in your electorate stand on climate change? Read on!

To compare the climate policies of the Australian Labor Party, Liberal National Party and the Australian Greens, check out these great scorecards by The Climate Council and Australian Conservation Foundation.

For minor parties running in North Queensland, below is a snapshot of their climate policies. They are listed alphabetically.

Family First

They have opposed emissions reduction policies in the past and regularly platform/reference climate skeptics.

"Family First has consistently argued against the economic damage caused by hasty net zero policies and climate alarmism."

Gerard Rennick People First

They do not support the Paris Agreement or renewable energy.

"People First will remove all funding and references to climate change."

Katter Australia Party

They have expressed mixed positions on climate change and renewable energy. They are vocal in their support for coal-fired power, but have also supported some renewable energy projects (e.g. Prairie Wind Farm). They have spoken out against the Paris Agreement in the past, but have been quiet on the issue in recent years.

"It cannot be over emphasised that existing coal fired power stations must be kept in the mix but [Hughenden's] location and high, consistent wind speeds make it a... suitable site for a wind farm. This is exactly the kind of investment that is enabled by CopperString, which will unlock North Queensland’s vast mining and energy resources and position north Queensland as a powerhouse for Australia.”

Pauline Hanson's One Nation

They do not support the Paris Agreement and question the evidence for anthropogenic climate change.

"We know that the majority of people believe in man-made global warming caused by carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. This belief is reinforced by media coverage... there is a growing concern about the evidence on which the claims of man-made global warming rests."

Steven Clare (Independent - Kennedy only)

It is unclear where Steven stands on climate change or environmental issues, as he is running on a platform on crime, safety and supporting small business.

Trumpet of Patriots

They do not support the Paris Agreement and would like to ban subsidies for renewables and repeal the ban on nuclear energy.

"[The Paris Agreement] will not change the weather but it will ensure we economically destroy the nation."
