HeatWatch Townsville

The Australia Institute is coming to North Queensland!

HeatWatch is a powerful tool for communicating the immediacy and urgency of global warming. Each HeatWatch report is a detailed research paper looking at temperature projections for a chosen location.

Next Tuesday The Australia Institute will be releasing their Townsville HeatWatch analysis. The analysis shows the increase in extreme heat days over 35 degrees in recent decades as well as state of the art CSIRO projections for increases in the coming decades as a result of climate change.

Increasing extreme heat will affect every aspect of our lives from health and work, to our comfort at home and enjoyment of outdoor activities. It also impacts on our natural environment and increases the risk of fires. Whether you work in defence, tourism, construction or mining, or just love Townsville’s lifestyle, increasing extreme heat events in our region will affect you.

Join the discussion and find out what’s happening to our climate, what we can expect in the coming years, and what can be done about it.

This is a free event, though donations are accepted upon entry.
