This October marked the 30 year anniversary of protecting the Hinchinbrook Channel. Many regional conservation councils like NQCC as well as national groups will remember this campaign well. Dredging of the Port Hinchinbrook Channel continues to this day, threatening the habitat of Dugongs and other precious wildlife.
Therefore, the next three stories from our NQCC 50 anniversary project focus on the campaign against Keith Williams' efforts to build a resort at Port Hinchinbrook.
In the first of these stories Tony Cuthbertson recounts how it was the Port Hinchinbrook campaign that led to him settling on Magnetic Island.
In the next story Jane Thomson recalls her experiences of the Port Hinchinbrook campaign.
Thank you to all the story tellers! We are grateful for past and present commitment to environmental protection.
