Nature Priorities Workshop 4

Nature Priorities Workshop banner

North Queensland has some of the best solar and wind resources in the country, and harnessing these will help us transition away from fossil fuels and play our part in combating the climate crisis.

Our region is also home to unique and irreplaceable natural and cultural values, and if we lose these, they're gone forever.

So, how do we balance the need for energy development with environmental protection?

First, we have to understand what regional values we are at risk of losing, and what threats they're facing.

Then, we need to identify areas that should be protected from energy development if we are to protect these values.

Finally, we will point to restoration projects that could be supported through renewable energy Community Benefit Agreements to ensure that our unique values are protected (and, where possible, enhanced) through North Queensland's energy transition.

Who should attend this workshop:

If you have a good working knowledge of North Queensland's natural values and their threats, or if you have knowledge of current restoration projects or ideas about projects that need to get started, we want your input!

This project is funded by the Queensland Government as part of theirΒ Energy Partnerships Framework.
