Our AGM 2025

AGMs at NQCC are never boring! We make them fun, friendly, and a chance to connect with our community. This year was no exception – with good food (thanks to our amazing volunteer and Treasurer, Monita), plenty of conversation, and a warm atmosphere that reflects the spirit of NQCC.

Tabling of Annual Report

Our Annual Report is a testament to the great work we achieve together at NQCC. This year, we actually struggled to keep it to a reasonable length because there was just so much to include - from community events and actions to the many conversations that have been a source of pride for our organisation. This version will still receive some stylish graphic updates, but we couldn’t wait to share the content with you.

OPEN ANNUAL REPORT

Honorary Life Member

We were delighted to see Malcolm Tattersall nominated and acknowledged as an Honorary Life Member. Crystal, who put forward the nomination, praised Malcolm for his consistent support - always ready to lend a hand when it’s needed most. Whether it’s tending to bananas in the backyard or troubleshooting when the office technology collapses, Malcolm has been there for NQCC time and again.

A Peek Behind the Curtain

Crystal and Luna shared their reflections on the past year, giving attendees a glimpse into the inner workings of NQCC.

Luna spoke about the growth of our network and the power of our connections - from providing meaningful volunteer opportunities like the Garage Sale to inviting new community leaders to the stage at the Climate and Energy Rally.

Crystal reflected on how far we’ve come since the Adani campaign, noting that while campaigns used to face more closed fronts, today we have more allies than ever. She observed that many people care deeply about the environment; we just don’t always speak the same language. Some of her highlights this year included celebrating the 50th anniversary of NQCC and marching as a tree with the kazoo band - a reminder that fun is an essential part of keeping the community engaged and connected.

Both Crystal and Luna also shared insights into upcoming opportunities, from installing more tangle bins around Townsville to taking action on dredging once again.

You’ll hear more about all of this in our upcoming newsletter, and there are plenty of ways to get involved as a volunteer!

Your feedback

We also took the opportunity to gather attendees’ thoughts through a Menti poll. We asked questions such as:

  • What are your favourite things about NQCC?
  • What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
  • What should we focus on in the year ahead?

As shown in the picture below, participants shared a wide variety of highlights and achievements from the past year, reflecting the diversity within our community and actions.

Electric bike raffle

The moment everyone had been waiting for: who would win the Velectrix Cruiser E-bike valued at $1,999 (from BNG Sports Townsville)

By the end of the night, our amazing volunteers had sold $5,000 worth of tickets - an incredible contribution to our conservation funds!

And the lucky winner is… Chris Cooper! Chris had purchased the most tickets in the draw, so his win was well deserved. When we called him, he said, “I’m still a bit in a bubble, I usually never win!”.

Congratulations, Chris, and a huge thank-you to everyone who helped make this raffle such a success!
