Townsville Eco Fiesta 2022

Townsville Eco Fiesta was a blast! This BEE themed, community event was run by Townsville City Council (TCC) and held on World Environment day Sunday 5th June at Anderson Gardens. It was fantastic to see so many eco conscious businesses, community groups and organisations coming together to celebrate and share what they do within the Townsville community.

It was truly inspiring to see so many busy bees dropping by our stall to help us bring our Sustainability Tree to life! We supplied attendees with fabric leaves to write down their suggestions for Townsville City Council to action in regards to improving sustainability and better protecting nature within our region. These inspiring suggestions were then pinned to our beautiful Paperbark tree designed and painted by the amazing David Sewell. This activity was a wonderful way to engage with our community, discover what's important to them and spark many interesting and thought provoking conversations.

Our Sustainability Tree brought to life thanks to many wonderful busy bees.

Wonderful to see so many kids putting their creative stamp on the plain white leaves we pre-cut just for them, their suggestions for TCC and their knowledge of environmental issues and solutions were amazing!

A few of the suggestions for TCC.

This event was a wonderful opportunity to share our vision and mission to promote and protect the natural environment in North Queensland. We informed people on the many different ways that they can support our work and signed on new members, volunteers and supporters. Find out more about how you can support us here.

Our Vision for Townsville.

We also promoted our Climate Action Townsville group and spread the #ClimateActionNow message with the help of our friends the Mental Sistas. How lucky were we to be graced by the presence of this fabulous trio.

Is it ever really an event with out the Mental Sistas? Oh darling...I think not!

We were thrilled to have Gardening Australia presenter Hannah Moloney (left) drop by to add her suggestion to our tree and pose for a quick Climate Action Now snap with NQCC Coordinator Crystal (right) and NQCC Volunteer Tamara (middle).

Locally made reusable Boomerang Bags were super popular and enabled us to raise funds on the day. Thank you to The Hub Creative Space and local Boomerang Bags team for donating them and organising delivery to our stall, we are extremely grateful.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by our stall to have a chat and a big thank you to those who signed up to support us and contributed to our Sustainability Tree! Another big thank you goes to our amazing volunteers Tamara Inkster-Draper and Manuela Andreatta who ran our activity and made our day with their wonderful energy and to David Sewell for taking the time to design and paint our beautiful Sustainability Tree. Thanks also to our Committee Members Matt Garbutt and Tom O'Grady for their help with pack down.

If you would like to add to our Sustainability Tree, please get in touch with Tiff [email protected] or drop by our stall at JCU Market day 27th July from 12pm - 3pm.
