2020 Trivia Night

Stranded Assets

2020 may be remembered for a lot of bad things, but if there is one memory that sparks joy and laughter when we look back on this time, we hope it is our infamous Annual Fundraising Trivia Night!

Trivia crowd

Covid-19-related restrictions meant that we were limited to just 50 people allowed in the beloved QCWA hall. While this meant that our tickets sold out rapidly, it also meant that a lot of keen teams missed out on a chance to compete this year. Regardless, we made the most of the situation and provided a whimsical night out for those who attended.Β

Featuring as first-time Trivia MCs on the night was NQCC Campaigns Manager Simon Cheers and newly appointed Management Committee member Matt Garbutt. They did a wonderful job and managed not to get too tongue-tied over the cryptic-style questions, written by the talented David McMillan. The themes for the evening's Trivia included the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the Great Barrier Reef, Disaster Films and Clean Energy. Teams also earned points with a Who Am I? game and some scrambled National Park names.Β

Some of those questions were pretty curly indeed! Luckily, Linda Davis was more than happy to betray the sanctity of the game, selling off our answers in return for cold, hard cash, which accumulated in mysterious brown paper bags...

Linda with bribes

To best adhere to public safety concerns, teams were invited to provide their own snacks, and this included a vast array of styles, from sushi to cheese platters and chips. Later, we all enjoyed a vegan turmeric coconut dhal, carefully concocted by Chris Pam and Megan Armstrong, who worked at an impressive rate behind the scenes to keep us fed and to do the dreaded dishes.Β

Corkscrews

The Corkscrews didn't screw around - they got straight to the point!

Bye Dons

Naming themselves "Bye Don", we can't help but think they are not unhappy about seeing the back of a particular US President...

Bogan Villains

Here is pictured two-thirds of the Bogan Villains, who provided (and wore) enough flowers to keep us smiling all night long!

City Watch

The City Watch came a close second at the quiz, but came first for most raffle winnings! The lucky ducks...

Twice as Good

Who are they Twice As Good as? They needed to be a little better to win... But it looks like they enjoyed themselves, which is the real aim of the game!

2020 Champions

Here we have the winners of the evening: Stranded Assets - the next team to have their names carefully etched onto our rustic yet beloved (and coveted) Quiz Championship board!

Thank you to Mary Who? Bookshop, Alastair Birtles and John Connell for the generous donation of our raffle prizes! Big thanks also to Peter Hanley and Tash Henderson for volunteering your time to help the night run smoothly. Importantly, THANK YOU to all you supported this event - we raised over $1,200 to support our work, but most importantly we got to surround ourselves with wonderful, quirky supporters, who never fail to fill our hearts!

We've got big plans for 2021, so keep a sharp lookout for opportunities to get involved... Until then, stay quizzical!
