There are many reasons to take part in a clean-up — from improving the look of our local environment to caring for the places together with others. But most importantly, rubbish in our waterways is directly harmful to wildlife.
No one sees this more than the volunteers from North Queensland Wildlife Care, who regularly rescue bats, birds, and marine life entangled in fishing line or injured by swallowed hooks, plastics, and other debris. It’s a confronting reality - and a reminder that we can all be part of the solution.

In partnership with North Queensland Wildlife Care and the Healthy Waters Partnership for the Dry Tropics, we invite you to take action and help protect our local ecosystems.
Join us for a community clean-up along the Ross River, focusing on the Barnicle Street Boat Ramp in Railway Estate. We’ll be removing rubbish from riverbanks, mangroves, and nearby saltmarshes — all vital habitats for wildlife. Every piece of rubbish removed makes a difference.
Where: Barnicle Street Boat Ramp, Railway Estate
We’ll meet at the end of Barnicle Street. There is plenty of parking available. Look out for our clearly visible marquee — we’ll start the morning there with a short safety briefing.
