A Little Bittersweet, But So Much to Look Forward To

Last night's General Meeting brought together long-time members, people considering joining NQCC, volunteers, interns, and friends of the organisation for an evening of conversation, fresh wood-fired pizza, and a look at what's ahead.

It was also a little bittersweet. After more than two years with NQCC, our Community Campaigner, Luna, was farewelled at the meeting.

Reflecting on her time at NQCC, Luna shared:

"I will always cherish my time at NQCC. It's been so much more than a job-it has been purposeful work that brought me so much happiness. Working alongside such inspiring volunteers and contributing to NQCC's important work in North Queensland has been a privilege. Crystal is an outstanding leader, and it has been a pleasure to work under her guidance."

The evening also celebrated the progress made over recent months. Crystal and Luna reflected on the incredible momentum building across the organisation-from welcoming new volunteers and forming new partnerships to expanding community campaigns.

And we're only just getting started.

There is so much on the horizon:

  • More community-led Clean Up events (where should we head next?)
  • More Green Drinks conversations (who should we invite to speak?)
  • Continuing to shape a renewable energy transition that works for North Queensland (what matters most to you?)
  • Creating more opportunities for students to have their voices heard on environmental issues (whose stories should we hear?)
  • Protecting the incredible natural places we all love (what place do you want to see conserved?)

NQCC has always been powered by people. Every new volunteer, member, intern, supporter and partner brings fresh ideas, energy and skills that help shape where we go next.

If you've ever thought about getting involved, now is a wonderful time. There are so many ways to contributeโ€”from hands-on conservation activities and community events to campaign support, communications, advocacy and behind-the-scenes projects.

The future of North Queensland's environment is something we build together.

What role will you choose?
