Join NQCC and Tangaroa Blue for this ReefClean on Friday June 7 at the South Townsville Secret Beach. Help prevent marine debris from entering the Great Barrier Reef. During this monitoring event, you’ll be helping clean our beautiful beaches whilst gathering important information for the Australian Marine Debris Initiative Database.
No prior experience is necessary. Our friendly team leaders will teach you everything you need to know on the day.
We will meet at the Dirt car parking area on Benwell St/Ron McLean Drive, opposite the turn off to Boundary Street, just before John McIntyre bridge.
We will have a safety briefing to begin with, then set out transects and clean the beach. Once collected, the debris will be taken off-site (usually to Queens Gardens) to sort and enter the data into the AMDI APP. If you cannot stay for the sorting, that's alright, just let us know before the event.
What to wear: Enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing
What to bring: Sun/rain protection, snacks you'd like, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle.
We will have water and Hydralyte available for refills, plus sunscreen and bug spray for use. We will have bags, gloves, and sharps containers for the clean-up.
See you there!
