This month we saw the release of the latest IPCC report, which we hope has fuelled the fire in your belly as it has for us. If you haven't had the time (or the will) to read a summary of the report, check out this handy cheat sheet from the Climate Council.
The main takeaway from the report is that every action counts and the time to act is now! Why not display a Climate Action Now! sign to show your support? Read on for details.
August will also go down in history as the last month Queensland allowed single-use plastics, such as cutlery, stirrers and straws - yay! Even better - businesses and organisations with surplus stock can register with The Great Plastic Rescue so that they can be reprocessed, recycled and remanufactured into valuable products with longer useful life spans!
As usual, we've had an action-packed month and we appreciate your ongoing support. We hope you enjoy this edition of Paperbark and that it inspires you in some way!

Tree Advocacy Update:
Talking up for our Trees with Townsville City Council
This month, NQCC joined Townsville's Tree Advocates Group to take our concerns and recommendations about vegetation management to Townsville City Council.
Crystal and Joanne met with Mayor Jenny Hill and relevant council staff to put forward our recommendations and Bernadette presented her e-petition at a council meeting. Our next opportunity is to present at a committee meeting on 8 September.
Rivers Campaign Update:
New Footage of the Beautiful Burdekin
Last week we obtained some aerial footage of the upper reaches of the Burdekin River, for use in our ongoing campaign for an integrated management approach.
This footage will help us to showcase the beauty of this North Queensland icon that so few of us get the opportunity to see in person. It will also be used by NQ Dry Tropics to assist their work on the ground throughout that area.
With the assistance of skilled volunteers, we will be editing the footage for use in future campaign materials - we can't wait to share it with you!
In the meantime, check out our media release, which was picked up by Channel 7 for a short TV segment.

Postcard Art Exhibition:
Opening Night Approaching!
Last week our office was abuzz with volunteers photographing and documenting the 100+ artworks that we have received. THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed their time and talent to our famous biennial fundraiser!
We are delighted to have received such beautiful and thought-provoking pieces, and we can't wait to share them with everyone at Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts! Photos will also be uploaded to our website shortly.
Our exhibition - "Nature: the wonder and the tragedy" will open on the evening of Friday 10th September, at Umbrella Studio. Our Auction is scheduled for Saturday 9th October.
Want to volunteer? Express your interest with the link below and Tiff will be in touch.
Green Drinks is an informal and friendly networking event for people who care for the environment. We always have laughs, stories and information to share with each other!
Last Green Drinks were held at the Commonwealth Hotel, where we had the opportunity to make new friends, catch up with some old ones and learn a bit about the work of Tangaroa Blue from Craig Turner - thanks Craig for sharing with us!
The next Green Drinks will be held from 6pm on Friday 17th September at Grill'd in South Townsville. We hope you can join us!
Annual General Meeting:
Wednesday 29 September
Save the date! Our AGM will be held on the evening of Wednesday 29 September at our office in Railway Estate. Current members will be sent an invitation in coming weeks with more details and the agenda.
We will also be reaching out to all recently lapsed members in the lead-up, to ensure you are a current member and can have your say on the night!
Haven't been a member before (or in a while)? Joining is easy and the fee is whatever you want it to be!
