Paperbark May 2023

As we welcome the cooler weather here in the tropics, the local events calendar is starting to heat up - exciting times ahead!

Hopefully you have found a way to celebrate Reconciliation Week, whether by attending an event, starting conversations with friends or exploring some of the resources available online.

The big news out of the past few weeks of course, is the appointment of Leanne Linard as Queensland's Minister for the Environment and Great Barrier Reef, Science and Multicultural Affairs. This poses an opportunity to impress upon her the importance of this portfolio and to highlight our region's environmental challenges and opportunities.

In this edition of Paperbark, you will find plenty of ways to support our work - by volunteering with us, attending our events, or by donating to our End of Financial Year appeal! Thank you for whatever it is you do to support our work. Enjoy the read!

NQCC UPDATES

50th Birthday Project

NQCC is having a milestone birthday next year, and we are working on a history project to celebrate! We will be digging through the archives and listening to stories to document the impact this organisation has had throughout its history.

If you have a keen interest in history, journalism or media, or would like to be a part of our project team, please sign up via the link below or email Chris at [email protected]. We'd love your contribution!

NQCC at Our Townsville

NQCC and Mental Sistas at Ecofiesta 2022

Our Townsville is coming up on Sunday 11 June in Anderson Gardens, and NQCC will have a colourful presence in the Our Environment section. We always have a blast at these events, and we'd love you to join us!

Volunteers are needed to help set up, pack down and keep our stall buzzing throughout the day. Consider signing up for a shift if you can, or simply drop by and say hi!

Townsville Listening Campaign

At our last Green Drinks, we had some great discussion about Townsville's Listening Campaign, with plenty of questions and interest!

We've added some more information to this webpage for you to check out and share with a friend! If you'd like to attend a Table Talk, express your interest in joining the Townsville listening campaign using the link below and you'll be invited to the next event!

A New Chapter for the Burdekin?

Burdekin River

For several years now, NQCC has campaigned for an integrated, catchment-wide approach to managing the Burdekin Basin sustainably.

With the Burdekin Basin Water Plan due for replacement from this year and the recent announcement of a Burdekin Regional Water Assessment, this could be a new chapter for our iconic Burdekin River...

NQCC End of Financial Year Appeal

2023 EOFY appeal graphic

The end of financial year is fast approaching, and we hope you can help us to raise some serious cash this year!

Our government funding, while appreciated, doesn't come close to covering the expenses of promoting and protecting North Queensland's incredible environment. In reality, most of our work simply wouldn't be possible without donations from supporters like you.

Donations to NQCC are tax-deductible. Beat the end of financial year rush and donate now!
